2007 Season
World Series Champions Right Here
in the Miami Valley
Dayton,
Ohio - August 8, 2007
- The Miami Valley Xpress 13U fast
pitch softball team won the USSSA 13U National Championship. The
win was captured after defeating the Boyertown, Pennsylvania
Storm 4-1 on July 29th. Sarah “Rocket” Alley pitched a complete
game for the victory and Megan Pearson sealed the win when she
delivered a key, two out, bases loaded single.
The championship was determined by
a week-long tournament held in Columbus, Indiana. The tournament
hosted 27 teams from ten states and Canada. After stumbling and
losing their first game, the Xpress swept through their next
eight games to capture the title. In 63 innings of play, the
pitching staff allowed just 15 runs (three earned). Equally
impressive was the team’s .350 batting average.
The Xpress team is comprised of 12
girls, age 13, from the Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati area.
“It was truly a team effort,” said Head Coach Mike Larabee. He
added, “This is a very talented group of young athletes and it
has been a pleasure to be their coach. I could not think of a
better way for us to end a successful season. We’ve won 65% of
our games, and also prevailed at the Sparta, Ohio ASA Shootout.”
